Washed Up Texas

Plastic Beach Trash Sculpture with Juan, Sally and Tito

Plastic Beach Trash Sculpture with Juan, Sally and Tito

Juan and Sally lean into the waves to rescue an Tito the Atlantic Green Sea Turtle trapped in plastic debris.  This sculpture captures both the struggle and the hope in our fight against ocean pollution.  The Tito the turtle represents the thousands of real sea turtles caught in fishing nets plastic bags and waste each year.  Juan and Salley embody the people who take action, reminding us that protecting the ocean requires courage, compassion and responsibility.

This piece is constructed entirely from plastic trash collected on Boca Chica and South Padre Island beaches.  Every wave, every detail in their clothing, and the turtle itself were hand cleaned, sorted by color and fastened with thousands of screws.  It is art with a purpose, designed to spark conversation and inspire change.
